Becoming a Sister:

New Membership Team

The New Membership Team welcomes your interest in the Sisters of Divine Providence and your inquiry into God's call in your life.

Sister Elsa Garcia
Sister Elsa Garcia I love my life and ministry; I help women explore God’s call. I recall my own beginnings… I am from a very small town in deep South Texas. My family is of Mexican origin and this has been a source of joy and pride for me. I grew up wanting to be a doctor, but chemistry and math were not my gifts. I went to Baylor University and worked for two years after graduation. I was helped to listen to my inner call to help people… and here I am… a religious Sister…a social worker by education and a sister to all. I do feel fulfilled.

Sister Gloria Ann Fiedler
Sister Gloria Ann FiedlerI have returned to San Antonio to serve on our Sisters of Divine Providence's New Membership Team after working for the past seven years out of the Office of Campus/Young Adult Ministry in the diocese of Fort Wayne/South Bend, Indiana. This position gives me the opportunity, together with many of our Sisters, to share our Providence spirituality in a variety of creative ways. There are many opportunities available in the San Antonio Archdiocese and in the surrounding areas. I am looking forward to collaborating with our CDP Mobile Ministry, Office of the Associates, the Archdiocesan Directors of Vocations and Young Adult Ministry, Our Lady of the Lake University, Providence High School and many who are interested in discerning a call to holiness, building community and service.

Sister Anita Brenek
Being part of the New Membership Team is like working Sister Anita Brenek in a parish – every year seems different and calls for new creativity. My primary responsibility is to plan and develop the formation processes for novices. As member of the Team, I also help with our many projects connecting with the Congregation, other groups, and interested women. In between projects and responsibilities, I enjoy gardening and visiting with my family and friends. For me, gardening is great therapy, encouraging me to slow down and watch God’s timing at work in life’s processes! Contact:

Sister Susana Cárdenas
Sister Susana CardenasMy work in the Formation Team is simple: I accompany our Postulant as she is getting ready to enter the Novitiate. I enjoy helping her learn about and live our religious life because it helps my own formation. I have to be aware of what I do, because more than words it is the example that I give that counts. Through the many years that I have been in the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence, I have done formation work several times. I am happy to offer the wisdom of my experience of religious life and I am humbled by the great love God has as He calls women to service as consecrated women. I hold this ministry as a blessing but also as a very challenging responsibility. God’s Providence is all we need.

Sister Martina Zea
Sister Martina ZeaIt is beautiful to see that in the small villages in Mexico, God stirs up love to follow him. I work with young women who discover in their hearts a desire to serve God. The questions they have open up the possibility of becoming consecrated religious women. I love to visit with them and help them discover that this call is real and that God will be faithful to them. I work with their families and help them see that their daughters will be in good hands. My country has many treasures. I see that God’s love is alive and well in the lives of those He calls to serve. Let us all continue to pray for vocations.
