Sister Florentine Mazurkiewicz, CDP
October 22, 1927 – January 22, 2026

Sister Florentine Mazurkiewicz, CDP, age 98, entered eternal life on January 22, 2026. She was born on October 22, 1927, in Chappell Hill, Texas, to Anthony and Josephine (Bilski) Mazurkiewicz. Her baptismal name was Barbara. She professed first vows as a Sister of Divine Providence on June 22, 1948, and celebrated her 75th Jubilee in 2023.

Sister Florentine was a Catholic School elementary teacher for 24 years. This included 14 years at St. Pius V in Pasadena, Texas. She taught in the Lindsay, Texas, public school system for 2.5 years until her congregation called her to assist in the stewardship of the congregational finances. The Congregation of Divine Providence (CDP) is grateful for her 40 years of dedicated and generous service in this capacity. In 2013, she transitioned to other forms of service to her convent community, such as distribution of mail.

Sister Florentine was quiet and unassuming, and blessed with the biggest of hearts. She blessed our community with kindness, warmth, and genuine care for others. She was always very grateful for what was done for her. Her deep love and faith in our provident God guided her life and was a witness to all who knew her.

We remember her evening relaxation ritual of visiting the spa with Sister Clemence. The staff of The Village at Incarnate Word named Sister Florentine as one of their favorite residents because of her peaceful, smiling presence to all. Sister Florentine will also be remembered for her faith, her loyalty, and the quiet ways she showed love. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her sister, Esther M. Kubeczka, nieces and nephews: Greg Kubeczka (Lorene), Mary Krolczyk (Tom), Karen Wierzbicki (Roy), Robert Kubeczka (Carole), Barbara Jaloway, Mary Holtkamp (Charles), and Clara Grundy (Paul), and her Sisters of Divine Providence. She is reunited in heaven with her parents: Tony and Josephine Mazurkiewicz; brothers: Monsignor Harry Mazurkiewicz, Monsignor Ben Mazurkiewicz, and Joe T. Mazurkiewicz; sisters-in-law: Patricia Mazurkiewicz and Irene Mazurkiewicz; brother-in-law: Joe F. Kubeczka; nephews: Chris Mazurkiewicz and Ed Mazurkiewicz; great nephew: T. J. Krolczyk.

The Rosary and Wake are on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection is Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. All services will be in Annunciation Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center.
