Associates of the Congregation of Divine Providence Host their Fourteenth Annual Associates Convocation

This past Saturday, March 2, 2024, the Fourteenth Annual Associates Convocation, themed “The Name of God is Mercy,” was held at Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center. This enriching event brought together individuals committed to the principles and spirituality of the Congregation of Divine Providence (CDP), offering a day filled with reflection, prayer, and community.

The day began with registration and gathering, followed by a warm welcome and an opening prayer led by Michael J. Laney, PhD, ACDP. Sister Margit Nagy, CDP gave a heartfelt introduction, leading into the keynote address by Dr. Laney. Drawing from the profound message of Pope Francis’s book “The Name of God is Mercy,” he emphasized the theme of mercy as more than an abstract concept, but as a tangible force that should drive Christian behavior and the global approach to justice, forgiveness, and interpersonal relationships.

Attendees engaged in small group discussions, reflecting on themes of mercy as highlighted in the first part of the convocation, including “A Time for Mercy” and delving into deeper discussions on the notion of “Too Much Mercy.” After a reflective lunch break, the convocation continued with inspirational words from Sr. Anita Brenek, CDP, and Sr. Rose Kruppa, CPD, who spoke eloquently about the power of connection, unity, and the significant impact of community life on individual and collective growth.

The afternoon sessions, led by Associates Gloria Urrabazo, Ana Maria De La Portilla, Bonnie Abadie, and Sandi Rabel, included breakout rooms focusing on compassionate companioning, sharing hope, supporting communities, and creating wreaths of mercy. These sessions provided practical insights and spiritual tools for living out the values of mercy and compassion in everyday life.

The event concluded with heartfelt acknowledgments and closing comments, followed by a Eucharistic Celebration, encapsulating the spirit of gratitude and fellowship that marked the entire convocation.

This year’s Associates Convocation was not just a gathering but a profound journey into the heart of mercy, challenging all participants to embody the merciful love of God in their communities and beyond. The convocation was a reminder that we are all called to be beacons of mercy, unity, and hope in a world that yearns for compassion and understanding.
