OLLU Employee Service Day

Community service is a priority at the Sisters of Divine Providence’s sponsored institution, Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU). The university provides both students and faculty/staff opportunities for service to the community. May 22 was the chosen day to make a difference for university’s founding members.

The OLLU Employee Service Day, coordinated by Jennifer Bendele and her team, consisted of a group of 31 faculty and one staff member. They gathered for morning prayer, then dispersed to different areas of Our Lady of the Lake Convent to be of service to the Sisters. Many stories and tidbits were shared while the weeds were pulled and the three convent gardens (Bezner, Peace and “Catio”) were tended to. The fleet of cars was washed and detailed and the Stations of the Cross received a much anticipated and needed cleaning. The resident Sisters of McCullough Hall Nursing Center were visited and taken outside for some fresh air and to see the Stations of the Cross. Others went to Feltin Center (the convent craft center) to assist with all the sewing and arts and crafts that take place on a daily basis while others assisted in the offices at Via Providence. At lunchtime, all gathered in Regan Dining room and the energy was in tune with the gratitude of both parties. Although it was hard work, the interaction with the Sisters was invaluable. It truly is in giving that you receive. The Sisters are grateful to their OLLU family for the impact made on this day.
