Providence Catholic School Celebrates Its 75th Anniversary

September 4 marks the official 75th anniversary of Providence Catholic School, a milestone celebrating the generations of students, Sisters, educators, families, alumnae and friends who have shaped its story. The school is commemorating its diamond anniversary throughout the year with special events, opportunities for connection and 75 Acts of Service.

In recognition of the milestone, the Congregation of Divine Providence made a gift of $75,000 to Providence Catholic School in honor of its 75 years of educating young women.

Sister Rose Kruppa, CDP, Congregational Leader, shared the meaning of the Congregation’s gift:

“We offer this gift with deep appreciation for the school’s enduring mission and with confidence in the future God continues to unfold through the students, alumni, faculty, staff, families, and friends of Providence. May this anniversary celebration honor the heritage entrusted to Providence, strengthen the bonds of sisterhood that have sustained it, and renew in all who gather a spirit of openness to God’s provident love. May it also inspire continued commitment to educating young women who will read the signs of the times with wisdom, act with compassion, and become instruments of hope in God’s world.”

Students are also helping shape the anniversary celebration through the school’s 75 Acts of Service. On September 4, seventh graders visited Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center and delivered cards to the Sisters as one of those acts. The visit created a personal connection between the students and the Sisters whose Congregation founded the school and has remained part of its life throughout its 75-year history.

The 75 Acts of Service initiative invites the Providence community to honor the anniversary by serving others during the school year. Each act offers students an opportunity to put the school’s core values of faith, academic excellence, integrity and justice into practice.

As the anniversary celebrations continue, the Congregation’s gift and the seventh-grade visit offer a glimpse of the many ways the Providence community is honoring the school’s heritage and looking toward its future. The gift reflects the Congregation’s confidence in the school and its mission, while the students’ cards reflect the relationships that continue to connect the school with the Congregation that founded it.

The anniversary celebration continues Saturday, September 12, with the Providence 75th Anniversary Opening Mass Celebration. Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, M.Sp.S., will preside at 2 p.m. in Glahn Gymnasium, 1215 N. St. Mary’s St., San Antonio, TX 78215. A reception will follow with a special cake cutting with the CDP Sisters at approximately 4 p.m. in the school lobby. View the event details on Facebook or register to attend.
