Sisters Support Youth’s Strike for Climate

Tomorrow, the 15th of March, thousands of students are missing school to participate in a worldwide strike in more than 98 countries. Beginning in Europe, students have dedicated their Fridays as #FridaysForFuture in hopes of receiving a response from their governments to acknowledge climate change.

Students in the U.S. have also begun to take leadership after President Trump’s recent decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement in 2017. With the concern that our country’s leaders have decreased our nation’s involvement in climate controls, it is important that this young generation has its voice heard for our world’s future.

The Congregation of Divine Providence has taken steps through its earth care committee to call for our nation to continue addressing climate change. The congregation’s chapter statement highlights its belief in the power of providence to bring all things to good including the cry of pain and anguish of the earth.

The Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence urged for the acknowledgement of climate change by the state and federal governments. The sisters endorsed strong bipartisan support for national climate legislation hoping to gain a strong EPA and the preservation of funding for pollution reduction programs.

The Congregation of Divine Providence is in support of the youth’s efforts to save our world and make an impactful change in our government.
