Sister Beatrice Ann Kainer
October 16, 1935 – July 6, 2026

Sister Beatrice Ann Kainer (formerly known as Sister David Anton), CDP, entered eternal life on July 6, 2026, at the age of 94, at The Village at Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas.  Born in Hackberry, Texas, on October 16, 1931, she and her siblings were lovingly raised by Anton and Ann Kainer on the family farm. There, amid the rhythms of the land and the values of faith, hard work, and stewardship, Sister Beatrice Ann cultivated gifts that would serve her throughout her life: careful organization, a keen mind for calculations, resourcefulness, and a deep respect for conservation.

With a joyful and generous heart, she answered God’s call to religious life, becoming a Sister of Divine Providence and professing first vows on June 22, 1952. Her many gifts, pleasant and positive spirit, and grace-filled flexibility blessed her decades of ministry in education, administration, supervision, and finance.

Although Sister Beatrice Ann initially planned to earn a business degree, she chose instead to pursue education, earning both a Bachelor of Science and a master’s degree in education from Our Lady of the Lake College/University in San Antonio, Texas. She taught elementary and middle school in Catholic schools across Texas for 22 years. Over the next four years, she applied her business acumen as Plant Director and later Director of Finances at her congregation’s Moye Retreat House in Castroville, Texas. She went on to serve in similar roles at Our Lady of the Lake Convent, Stella Maris Clinic, and St. Anthony Day Care over a span of 15 years. For the next 10 years she managed cafeteria finances and the challenges of the federal lunch program at Providence Catholic School, San Antonio, Texas. When that mission was complete, she continued serving her congregation through in-house bookkeeping, mail service, sewing, and crafts for the next 16 years.

In all she undertook, Sister Beatrice Ann served with faith in her provident God, meeting each opportunity and challenge with grace and gratitude. Among the lasting examples she leaves behind is this simple invitation: smile as you abandon yourself to Providence.

She is survived by her siblings Dolores Fritsch, Gloria Ann Cernosek, and Hubert Kainer; siblings-in-law Clement Cernosek, and Helen Marie (Ulcak) Kainer; nine nieces and nephews and the Sisters of Divine Providence.  She was preceded in death by her parents Anton W. and Ann Kainer; brothers Wilfred and Daniel Kainer; sister Harriet Bohac; siblings-in-law Helen Lydia (Chunda) Kainer, John Bohac, and Lyttleton Fritsch, Jr.

She will be missed by her family, former students, friends, and Sisters of Divine Providence.  Her life will be celebrated as follows: Rosary and Wake: Thursday, July 16, at 6:00 p.m.; Mass of Resurrection: Friday, July 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Divine Providence, 603 SW 24th Street, San Antonio, Texas, 78207-4621.
