DeusticeSister Joanne Raymonda Eustice, CDP (formerly known as Sister Mary Scholastica), entered eternal life on September 25, 2021 at the age of 98. She was born April 19, 1923 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her parents were Joseph Hugh and Zeanna (Clote) Eustice. Sister Joanne was the oldest of nine children. She answered God’s call to become a Sister of Divine Providence on September 4, 1942 and professed first vows on June 22, 1945. Teaching music was her calling. Music was the favored path to her contemplation. Music was the melody of her life.

Sister Joanne earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Masters of Arts in Counseling from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas. She taught instrumental music in various schools in Texas and Oklahoma over a span of 53 years. Throughout her years of ministry, she also led the girls’ choir in three of the six schools where she taught. In 1976, she came home to Our Lady of the Lake Convent, in San Antonio, Texas, to serve as the Regan Hall Coordinator. Four years later she returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she taught piano at St. Pius X School for 22 years. Sister Joanne retired and returned to the convent in 2003.

Sister Joanne continued to share her talent and love of music at the convent. Her humorous storytelling, joyful personality and light spirit will be deeply missed by all.

She is survived by her sister, Eileen Hinckley and sister-in-law, Billie Eustice and the Sisters of Divine Providence. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Zeanna Eustice and siblings: Don Thomas Eustice, Mary Lou (and Bob) Steil, Zeanna (and John) Naughton, Rose Marie (and Bud) Paul, Rita (and Charles) Austin, Larry (and Patricia) Eustice, Thad (and Mimi) Eustice and brother-in-law, Bill Hinckley.

The Rosary is Thursday, September 30, at 4:00 p.m. and the Wake is at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be Friday, October 1, at 11:00. All services will be in Annunciation Chapel.
