Sister Margeta Krchnak, CDPSister Margeta Krchnak, CDP
November 5, 1930 – July 23, 2020

Sister Margeta (formerly Sister M. Rosello) Krchnak, CDP, entered eternal life on July 23, 2020 at the age of 89. She was the fourth of ten children born to Adolph Frank and Caroline Frances (Surovcak) Krchnak. Sister Margeta was born November 5, 1930 in Sealy, Texas. Her baptismal name was Margaret Mary. She professed first vows as a Sister of Divine Providence on June 22, 1950. Sister Margeta was an excellent teacher, an avid student of life and a deeply spiritual person.

Sister Margeta earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Education from Our Lady of the Lake College, San Antonio, Texas. She taught elementary school in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas, middle school in Oklahoma and Texas, and high school in Oklahoma, and in Texas in Castroville, Yoakum and San Antonio. She spent 10 years at Providence High School, San Antonio, Texas, as a religion and math teacher. Later on, she returned to Providence for an additional five years to assist various offices and to computerize the library. As an educator, she enthusiastically taught a wide range of subject matters: religion, Latin, math, science, art. She signed up for university courses to enrich her new subject matters. She won several National Science Foundation grants to learn innovative ways to teach math and science.

Sister Margeta appreciated the ways of Providence that led her to other non-educational ministries. Sister Margeta worked for nine years at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown San Antonio under the leadership of Fr. Bill Davis, OMI. In preparation for the multitude of tasks given to her, she took intermediate and advanced typing, computer science and graphics at OLLU, a “Ways of Spirituality” course at St. Mary’s University, and obtained her driver’s license. Her intellectual and practical development were second to her spiritual development; that she prioritized highly throughout her life. Her continual efforts to experience intimacy with God deepened her abandonment to Providence.

She is survived by her siblings Adolph F. Krchnak, Jr., L.C. (Max) Krchnak, Theresa Jurik, Ann Schauerte and Louise Krchnak, and all her Sisters of Divine Providence. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Caroline Krchnak, siblings Bertha and Joe Krchnak (both infants), Lillian Deschaines and Elizabeth Mader Clark.

A rosary and prayer service will be held on Thursday. A Mass of Resurrection and burial will take place on Friday. All services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a memorial contribution to the Sisters of Divine Providence, 515 S.W. 24th Street, San Antonio, Texas 78207-4619.
