Congregation of Divine Providence Announces New Leadership and Celebrates with Installation Mass

The Congregation of Divine Providence installed Sister Rose Kruppa as the Congregational Leader, Sister Anita Brenek, Sisters Joyce Detzel and Elsa Garcia as General Councilors. Their leadership term started June 24 and will continue until Summer 2029. In commemoration of this significant transition, a special Installation Mass was held, connecting the Sisters, our sponsored ministries and the broader community.

Sister Rose brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to carrying the flame of Providence. She graduated from Bishop Forest High School in Schulenburg TX, where she first met the Sisters of Divine Providence. Sister Rose has served most recently in the capacity of Pastoral Associate for St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and as an organizational consultant and group facilitator for religious orders. With over 25 years in education, over 50 year in ministry, and several master’s degrees including Management and Organizational Behavior, she is well-suited to lead the Congregation into the next chapter of its storied history.

Sister Rose will oversee the day-to-day operations, strategic direction, and spiritual guidance of the Congregation. Her responsibilities also include service on the boards of our sponsored institutions (Our Lady of the Lake University and Providence Catholic School) and collaboration on projects with other religious orders in San Antonio and throughout the region. Her vision and leadership skills will be instrumental in fostering the mission of the Congregation which has over 150 years of service in Texas and the southwestern United States. The call of the Sisters of Divine Providence is to further the mission of Jesus in the world and to live their charism by proclaiming that God is provident – guiding, loving, and caring for all creation.

The installation Mass was celebrated on June 24th in Sacred Heart Conventual Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake University with Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak as the presider. The Mass served as a joyous and meaningful gathering for the Sisters and Associates, local religious leaders, community and family members, who came together to express their gratitude for the past, embrace the present, and look forward to a promising future under the guidance of Sister Rose and her Council. The ceremony was filled with prayer, reflection, and heartfelt blessings, marking the official commencement of a new chapter for the Congregation.

The Congregation of Divine Providence extends its heartfelt gratitude to Sisters Pearl Ceasar, Anita Brenek, Lourdes Leal, and Mary Bordelon who have served with distinction and made invaluable contributions during their tenure as General Council.
